Movies that get me in the mood....

...for fashion. Big and Carrie have put women 16-86 in a visual coma with their screen ensembles for Sex and the City 2. Have these women forgotton about the true power couples of the cinematic fashion world? Here are my top picks for the vintage screen couples that still inspire the world of cult fashion.

1. The Great Gatsby

(Mia Farrow and Robert Redford)

2. The Thomas Crowne Affair (both 1968, and 1999)

(Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway)

3. Bonnie and Clyde

(Warren Beatty and the lovely Ms. Faye Dunaway yet again)

4. Funny Face

(Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire)

5. 8 1/2

(Marcello Mastroianni and Anouk Aimee)

Seeing Double, university terrace

Aris Deng
Sohomore Finance Major
Andy Liu
Freshamn Electric Engineering Major

Walked past then hestitated and walked back to talk with Aris and Andy about their international style. Both were super friendly and raved about Athens "fixed gear style". Humble about their own appearance, I was taken aback by the relaxed nature of their rolled pant legs and chic nerdy glasses.

I'm into...

...the short, shorts look on men these days. The look takes me back to a day where cargo pants hadn't been invented yet. So please step out of the 90's grunge era and try a pair of these on for size. They will undoubtedly test your manhood so,

Pick your comfort level:

This post has been manifested by me, for you, due to my two hour loop of unproductive internet fumbling caused by my blatant aversion to criticizing Marxist theory.

Therefore if you, like I, are in need (or mostly want) of distractions during your end of the year projects/papers/ and other ambiguous school assignments please refer to the list below and thank me (or hate me) for your new found inspiration obsessions.

MISSHAPES

Some of my favorite inspiration comes from the after parties of the coasts. Perhaps its the distance from my small town, but most likely its because everyone looks so damn fantastic. Who wouldn't want to spend the night and early morning hours with these outlandish characters...

especially him....erm her?

Trench, kantner hall

Molly Hagan
Senior Playwright Major

Trench coats often remind me of British spies, or flashers. Paired with worn in cowboy boots and a short boyish 'do, Molly thankfully reminds me of none of the aforementioned characters. Although I never did ask what was really under that jacket...

Floral Dress, court street international festival

Heather House
English Professor for International Students

I wish I had taken more pictures of the International Street Festival, unfortunately I was too preoccupied with the international cornacopia of foods displayed on sticks..... However I was able to capture this picture of Heather and her floral dress that she got for just 5 bucks at a garage sale.

May Humidity

With humid weather comes lack of ambition for dressing nice, and most of the time... getting dressed at all. Air conditioning becomes all the clothing necessary as stepping outside engulfs you quickly in a thick sweater of musky air. Although my fellow students might be saving their summer outfits for cooler days, I can always count on my favorite site lookbook.nu for some inspriation during this moist month of May.

28 year-old user "Virgin Jessica" from Montrose, Tx implores an open denim shirt and hair wrap to keep herself cool even in the Texas heat. Her look is completed with steampunk sunglasses and an array of gold bangles that add dimension but are far from "bling".

Liset Van Der Laan takes a simpler approach to the damp gray days of May by pairing a simple patterend top with long vintage skirt. The ponytail adds the perfect do' to the relaxed look. The beach background was not a contributer to me picking this picture. (The previous statement was a lie).

20 year-old Lena Phillips' look reminds me of the days in high school where me and a couple of friends would go to a remote spot and jump of the railroad tracks into the shallow river below. This only reminds me of this particular occurence because there are railroad tracks. And like Lena, I was not the one jumping. I would just sit there and try to look cool as my friends tried to look cool by risking their lives. Either way, Lena looks like a fantastically sadistic me in her sheer black button up and high waisted shorts that are impractically practical for a mid-day "jump" into the river.

Rolled Cords, east green

Sam Sloma
Freshman Organized Communications Major

Sam's style captivated my attention enough to make me sacrifice a freshly bought popsicle. Excitement hit again when I learned that the simple necklaces he wore were handmade, the longer of the two being constructed from an old necklace of his grandmother's. Estate sales, vintage stores, and thrift shops were other outlets that added to a collection that Sam has just recently stopped selling on Etsy. Keep making me ditch my food Sam.
