With humid weather comes lack of ambition for dressing nice, and most of the time... getting dressed at all. Air conditioning becomes all the clothing necessary as stepping outside engulfs you quickly in a thick sweater of musky air. Although my fellow students might be saving their summer outfits for cooler days, I can always count on my favorite site lookbook.nu for some inspriation during this moist month of May.

28 year-old user "Virgin Jessica" from Montrose, Tx implores an open denim shirt and hair wrap to keep herself cool even in the Texas heat. Her look is completed with steampunk sunglasses and an array of gold bangles that add dimension but are far from "bling".

Liset Van Der Laan takes a simpler approach to the damp gray days of May by pairing a simple patterend top with long vintage skirt. The ponytail adds the perfect do' to the relaxed look. The beach background was not a contributer to me picking this picture. (The previous statement was a lie).

20 year-old Lena Phillips' look reminds me of the days in high school where me and a couple of friends would go to a remote spot and jump of the railroad tracks into the shallow river below. This only reminds me of this particular occurence because there are railroad tracks. And like Lena, I was not the one jumping. I would just sit there and try to look cool as my friends tried to look cool by risking their lives. Either way, Lena looks like a fantastically sadistic me in her sheer black button up and high waisted shorts that are impractically practical for a mid-day "jump" into the river.

Sam's style captivated my attention enough to make me sacrifice a freshly bought popsicle. Excitement hit again when I learned that the simple necklaces he wore were handmade, the longer of the two being constructed from an old necklace of his grandmother's. Estate sales, vintage stores, and thrift shops were other outlets that added to a collection that Sam has just recently stopped selling on Etsy. Keep making me ditch my food Sam.

Vice Magazine has some of the most creative fashion spreads of any magazine currently in print. Often raunchy, yet always entertaining. This particular fashion spread appealed to every aspect of my personality, especially childhood obsessions with fancy critters. Who thought a marsupial could pull off a crisp blue button down so well?

MICA Fashion Show Highlights

This weekend I traveled to the heart of Baltimore and was able to not only see the Transmodern Festival (and spot Dan Deacon) but attend the MICA Annual Benefit Fashion Show as well. With a seat directly in front of the runway I was able to get the best view in the house (despite a few cases of skimpy loincloths). I accidentally took upwards of 400 pictures but decided to spare the pixels and select some of my favorite looks from each designer.

Janae Smith presented a tribal line that boasted creative uses of fur but left me wanting more...clothes.

Sarah Ivancic presented the empowered woman, beautifully.

Although not thoroughly impressed with Mika Eubank's line of business chic, I loved her concept celebrating the "evolution of women" and this particular model who strutted the runway with the talent of a model who has seen her fair share of New York Fashion Week.

Sally Park's line exploring secret obsessions topped my favorite looks of the show. My mouth held agap as this intricate floral gown passed in front of my eyes. I am utterly suprised I worked my camera in time to capture its beauty.

Sophia Park and Virginia Rohr's line lacked a common theme however their metal pieces did a good job of tying together the looks within the show. Each individualized piece impressed me more than the last. The black "tube" hood on one of the final male models was extremely innovative and was only topped by the over-the-edge attitude of the man of gold who followed him.

Kate Weintraub and Morgan Frailey's line inspired by Victorian bondage was another favorite. Animal skull placed over your no-no's? Yes, yes.

Jessica Marx's work was damn impressive for a sophomore student and again took a more tribal turn. The organic quality of the work was intriguing and surprisingly versatile. This style reminded me of a Southern Belle, if her mother had been part of a Native American tribe.

The concept behind Julia Cheng and Spencer Agoston's work applied to my interests minimally at best but they looked terrifically alien within the dim theater.

Chris, my first revived Court Cloth victim, had a relaxed style that stood out amongst the t-shits (a typo I'm leaving) and athletic shorts of his collegiate peers. After exchanging names I realized I had photographed Chris well over a year before on South Green and appreciated his style just as much now as I did when Court Cloth was a mere infant. Chris spends his time apparently being stalked by me and providing his musical abilities for the local bands Whale Zombie and Manor Animals.

While in Omaha I had the chance to intern for one of the magazine industry's finest, Alice Kim. A 15 year alumna, Alice has worked for some of the top magazines including a long running as InStyle's go-to accessories maven. After her 10th year at InStyle she decided to take a chance and follow a lifelong passion for the city of Omaha, Nebraska. Constantly encountering the city during her life through different acquaintances and startling coincidental outlets she packed up her New York apartment and headed to the quintessential Midwestern state of Nebraska.

2. The U.S. open tennis matches every August/September. Best athletic event to watch live outdoors, in the sun, all day and night.
3. Fire Island - Point O'Woods. My friends have a place there - you have to have a family and children to have a house. No cars, just boardwalks and lots of bicycles. Perfect summertime retreat.
4. Walking everywhere and anywhere.
5. That unmistakable and incomparable energy that IS New York as well as calling it my home.

O wait that was two posts ago. Damn I have been bad about that whole "posting new posts idea" that is required with any blog.

Needless to say this summer has been a very thought-provoking three months filled with deep thoughts, revelations, and some ideas about the direction that I wish to take Court Cloth. Coupled with these thoughts has been a month long internship at Trocadero, friendships with the artistic locals and a talented young designer named Jennie Mason, and the decision to stay in Athens, Ohio for both my education and the future of Court Cloth. I swear posts would have already been added but I seem to have forgotten the importance of a camera cord in the process of uploading pictures to the internet. Therefore stay tuned because Saturday I return to both my home and my abandoned cord.

Court cloth is officially leaving Ohio University. I have had a great year writing and stalking the students and residents of Athens but it is time to move on to a larger mecca. This summer is going to be spent searching for inspiration in all elements, mediums, and forms. June-September might be a hodgepodge of unfamiliar, but soon Court Cloth will return to one cohesive piece.

Do As The Professors Do

It has been far too cold to think about stealing people off the street let alone make the necessary steps to actually do so. However this doesn't mean that I haven't been looking for superb sub-zero fashion. One of my favorites so far is being worn by an unlikely bunch, the great male professors of Ohio University. A casual suit worn contrastingly and harmoniously tucked into a pair of well-constructed rain boots. Already today I have spotted one of these well-fashioned men in Perks, as well as right outside of Baker sporting this interesting and scholarly combination. I hope to get a sample of one soon but for now I have to let a mental image suffice while I chatter my teeth.

So do as your fashionable elder professors do and go the classic rain boot way. Frankly I'm sick of the day-glo patterns and would like to see some old-school equestrian styles roaming these ice laden streets.

I've been sitting in a *Nameless* tanning salon on Court waiting for my friend to finish toasting her skin for approximately 20 minutes. Within these 1,200 seconds I have seen about 15-20 collegiate girls walk in and out. Every single one of them (and when I say every single one, I mean excluding not one girl) was happily sporting her own "unique" pair of Uggs. Eight to ten were wearing a lovely chestnut color, five-ish were sporting the dark brown, and the rest were devoted to black. O wait! Lets re-tally the count and add two more to the chestnut category. Some slipped passed me while I was writing the past four to five sentences.

Lets guesstimate that an average pair of Uggs costs between $130- $160. Now lets take the lump some of money and apply it to something stylish.

Mixed Patterns on South Court

I did a double take and immediately grabbed Robin after seeing her gorgeous coat whisk past me on South Court. After my eyes were able to move from her coat and digest the rest of her look, I was able to see the other intricate patterns that she had incorporated effortlessly into her ensemble. These completely different patterns are quirky yet unexpectedly pleasing to the eye. Robin was a refreshing winter look in a sea full of down and sweats.

I may or may not have cornered Toshiko in the bathroom when I saw what she was wearing along with her new stylishly choppy cut. However I decided to keep her and Court Cloth's dignity intact and photograph her just in front of the large windows towards the back of the building. Toshiko's outfit perfectly described her laid back spunk with an eclectic grouping of muted colors. I was hoping her backpack was purchased in a store native to Japan (where she spent her excessively long six week break) but she just happened to pick it up at one of my all time favorite stops. Urban Outfitters of course.... I knew we connected immediately for a reason.

Unfortunately this photograph does not do Calla Bonanno, a sophomore Communications major with an appropriately original name, justice. I first noticed Calla in one of my classes earlier this week and have hailed her ensemble choices for the entirety of the week. It was only today that I remembered my camera and therefore had the tools to capture a tangible picture (rather then just a mental one). Her bright gold headband and studded bracelet (not completely visible in the photograph) complete the off-the-shoulder look

I seem to be one who is uncommonly attracted to brown leather bags and this one seemed to be no different in calling my name from across the courtyard. I met/barraged Katharine Perko, a graduate English major, while heading down Court Street. With all information written down, I had realized I had left the most important part of my camera (the battery) at home. Luckily Katharine was more then willing to meet me at Perks for an impromptu shoot. Meeting her previously, I had failed to see the simple tattoo inked on her upper left arm. What better way for a Cleveland native to show her true love for Ohio.

Dreams of Chicago, a reality in Athens. Once disappointed in my unfortunate location I began searching the streets for solace. What I found was surprising. Fashion in Appalachia? Students with inspiring and original style roamed the streets, frequented the small shops, sat nonchalantly in parks.
